Nick Arbuckle sliced and diced defenses with his precision passes leading Team SoCal Elite to a perfect 5-0 record in the Passing Down Six at Six.
What makes his performance much more remarkable is the fact he doesn’t even start at quarterback for his high school team. Backing up Marc Evans at St. Bonaventure hasn’t deterred him from competing this spring at quarterback or from helping out his team, where he starts at tight end.
Nonetheless, Arbuckle proved he is a talented thrower Saturday in Santa Clarita. Moreover, he will get an opportunity to showcase his talents against some of the other top quarterbacks in the nation in July at the Passing Down Elite 7-on-7 Best of the West tournament at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
Zach Kline, Mike Baker, Tyler Ferguson, Malik Watson, and Myles Carr are a few of 15 quarterbacks that automatically qualified for BOTW this spring. As well, another elite quarterback will be chosen to comprise the Passing Down All-Star team of the top prospects on teams that didn’t qualify for BOTW.
Joining Arbuckle’s SoCal Elite squad on Saturday as qualifiers for BOTW were Team Hawks out of Bakersfield and Team 559 out of Tulare. Team SCV Elite led by quarterback Jonathan Jerozal was arguably the second best team at the Passing Down Six at Six as it lost two close games to SoCal Elite in pool play and in the playoff semifinal, respectively. SCV Elite could have qualified for the BOTW with a third place game victory over Team 559 but opted to forfeit.
