QB K.J. Carta-Samuels named MVP

Passing Down concludes its Elite 7-on-7 Challenge with a 10-team championship tournament. Two of the top seeds from the Southern California Regional – B2G Scorch and Frat Boyz – pulled out of the tournament last minute.

12:40 PM -- Team 559 Crew led by Tulare (Calif.) Mission Oaks linebacker Kevin Palma beats Team SLO, 20-14. Palma, fresh off his MVP performance at the Oakland Nike NFTC, is dominating on both sides of the ball. At tight end, he is tough to cover with his size and athleticism. On the other side of the ball, Palma is an imposing figure at backer. His offer count should continue to rise.


Palma holds offers from Nevada, Oregon State, San Diego State, and UCLA.

Team Bay Area Ballers upended Team Big Picture Athletics, 14-6, in the other opening game. Marin Catholic quarterback Jared Goff, who's verbally committed to Cal, is adjusting to the windy conditions on the Central Coast.

1:15 PM -- 2010 Passing Down Best of the West Champions and 2011 runner ups Team Pro Sport start off pool play with a 13-12 win over Team Pride N Skillz.

Team Go Get It, who lost to Pro Sport in the NorCal Regional championship game, whips Six at Six Regional champion Team Savv Out, 22-6, in each team's opening pool play game.

TU Squad makes early statement by beating Team ASAP 26-13.

1:50 PM -- Pro Sport finishes pool play 2-0 after beating Team SLO, 13-12, in overtime.

Savv Out finishes 1-1 with a 16-7 win over Bay Area Ballers. And Team 559 Crew goes a perfect 2-0 with a 19-18 OT win over Big Picture Athletics.

Playoffs begin at 2:15 PM with teams pre-seeded based on regional performance.

2:15 PM -- Pool play wraps up with ASAP falling 19-14 to Go Get It, who goes 2-0, and TU Squad, also 2-0, beating Pride N Skillz, 20-6.

3:00 PM -- Team 559 Crew advances with win over Bay Area Ballers. They will face Team Pro Sport.

Team SLO beats Big Picture Athletics to also advance and play Savv Out. Both Bay Area Ballers and BPA await their opponent in the losers' bracket.

Team Pride N Skills beats ASAP and moves on to the winners' bracket. They will play the winner of Pro Sport and 559 Crew.

3:30 PM -- Team Pro Sport, Team Savv Out and Team Go Get It all join Pride N Skillz in the winners bracket.

On the other side, the elimination games begin with Team Big Picture Athletics playing Team 559 Crew in one game, and Team Bay Area Ballers facing Team SLO in the other.

Winners' bracket will also get under way with Pro Sport facing Pride N Skillz. Team Go Get It and Savv Out face off in the other winners' bracket semifinal at 4:10 PM.

4:15 PM -- Team Pro Sport is living up to its No. 1 seed knocking off Pride N Skillz. Pro Sport will await the winner of Go Get It and Savv Out in the 5:10 PM winners' bracket championship game.

Two teams are out as Big Picture Athletics knocked off Team 559 Crew and Team SLO "upsets" Jared Goff's Team Bay Area Ballers.

TU Squad is facing SLO in an elimination game as is ASAP is matching up with Big Picture.

4:50 PM -- Big Picture knocks out ASAP and TU Squad takes out SLO. While Savv Out holds seed and beats Go Get It.


Team Pro Sport

5:10 PM -- Passing Down hands out regional award winners. Team Pro Sport won the NorCal Regional and Team Savv Out won the Six at Six Regional. San Jose (Calif.) Bellarmine QB K.J. Carta Samuels was MVP of the NorCal Regional and Bakersfield (Calif.) Frontier QB Evan Moorewas MVP of Six at Six.

5:30 PM -- TU Squad and Big Picture Athletics are sent packing.

The final four are set.

Pride N Skillz will face Go Get It in an elimination game as top seeds Pro Sport and Savv Out will battle it in the final game of the winners' bracket.

6:00 PM -- Down to three!

Team Pro Sport remains perfect in 2012 Passing Down events. They won the initial Passing Down Best of the West in 2010 and finished second last year losing to Bakersfield Burr. They beat Savv Out, also out of Bakersfield, to advance to the 2012 Best of West Championship Game.

Pro Sport will face the winner of Savv Out and Pride N Skillz, who defeated Team Go Get It in an elimination game.

6:30 PM -- Savv Out edges Pride N Skillz in overtime to advance to play Pro Sport in the Championship Game -- 70 yards and 30 minutes.

For the third consecutive year, the best from San Jose (Pro Sport) will face the best from Bakersfield in the Passing Down Best of the West Championship Game.

7:05 PM -- Pro Sport captures its second Best of the West title in three years. Carta-Samuels is named MVP of the tournament.
