Pelini visits Stanton

Johnny Stanton

Bo Pelini began his visits on Monday out in California. It's a great place to start. Nebraska has some very important targets left in the state and one of their most important commitments is also from California.

Nebraska commitment Johnny Stanton from Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic saw his season come to an end earlier than it should have. The four-star rated recruit and the No. 30 quarterback nationally tore his ACL in a game, but finished the game with the injury.

"The knee is doing better," Stanton said. "I had physical therapy today and I feel pretty good."

Stanton has been busy with school and rehab, but also got a chance to open his house to some friendly faces. The head coach from Nebraska and an assistant coach were in-home with Stanton on Monday night and had a nice, long meeting.

"Coach Bo Pelini and Coach Ron Brown came by on Monday night. They were here for about two and a half hours. Obviously we talked about a lot of things, but we talked about recruiting, the Capital One Bowl and Lincoln for the most part."

It is kind of interesting that the head coach would be out to see a commitment on the first night of in-homes, but that is just how things worked out. He was somewhere else before coming over to Stanton's, so was the assistant coach for that matter, and catching up with all of the California kids was important.

"Yeah, they aren't recruiting me anymore because I am 100% committed to Nebraska. Coach Pelini was over at Beau Sandland's house before he came over and Coach Brown was at Terrell Newby's house before he came over. They are trying to recruiting those guys, but at my house it's different.

"It's about building the relationship and the connection now. I have been to Lincoln three times and obviously that doesn't make me a master at all, but I got a chance to get around and see it twice. Coach Fisher and Coach Beck said they are going to come in a couple of weeks. Nothing is set yet for next week, but sounds like they will be here again.

"Coach Bo told me that he wanted to go and see his main guys like his quarterback, the junior college tight end and the running back that isn't committed yet. He just told me he wants see everyone personally, but that he was going to start with seeing kids in California."

There are some recruits that are having to tell schools and coaches no that they are not interested in any other schools or there is Stanton. Stanton says since his commitment, and letting all of the programs know that were talking to him, that he hasn't had any contact with any other schools.

"I haven't talked to any coaches from any other school for probably a couple of months. No other schools are still trying to recruit me or pressure me ever since I committed to Nebraska."

Stanton has also been busy recruiting for Nebraska. Stanton says that he has been reaching out recently to Newby and Sandland, but he added a third player from California to his list recently. Stanton thinks that some of them are really favoring Nebraska.

"I have been talking to Newby, Sandland and Aaron Cochran most recently. I know with Sandland there is a time for him to sign coming up soon, but I think all of those guys are thinking about Nebraska."
