Brown picks Bulldogs

Elijah Brown

Butler added to an already impressive recruiting class with the commitment of Elijah Brown.

The Butler Bulldogs got some great news on Thursday evening when their top remaining 2013 recruit called and issued his commitment. Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei standout Elijah Brown picked the Bulldogs over Saint Mary's.

Brown, who was one of the top performers at the Chicago Elite Classic this year, is a big time scorer and athlete who can put up points in a hurry.

Now according to Elijah's father, Mike Brown, the next step will be to play for Brad Stevens at Butler.

"He just called Brad Stevens and committed to Butler," said the elder Brown.

Brown selected Butler over Saint Mary's, and it was a tough choice, but in the end an official visit and location proved to be the difference.

"Both schools to me were very similar," said Mike Brown. "Both are obviously a lot higher level than some perceive them to be, and both are coached by terrific people. The biggest thing was that Elijah was looking to get back to the Midwest, and we as a family were looking to get back to the Midwest. That definitely played a part in it, and Elijah wanted us to be as close to possible."

He continued, "Also we made a visit for Butler's game against Gonzaga and it was a great selling point. Obviously they won't be playing Gonzaga every game, but the atmosphere was incredible that was huge for Elijah."

This is the fourth commitment for Butler in a very good class that features point guard Rene Castro and forwards Nolan Berry and Andrew Chrabascz.
