Mason having strong senior year

Unsigned senior shooting guard Trey Mason has taken his game to the next level and has been a big part of a successful Los Angeles Loyola team.

It's been a successful senior season for 6-foot-2, 190-pound Los Angeles Loyola shooting guard Trey Mason.

The 2013 prospect has expanded his game and played a big role on a Loyola squad that is one of the better teams in Southern California.

On Saturday he had 28 points with six three-pointers against St. John Bosco, which has been a pretty typical performance from him this year.

"I've met a lot my goals so far," Mason said. "I worked really hard in the off-season to get ready for this season and I think I've exceeded a lot of my and others' expectations. It's been a good year so far."

Heading into the season, Mason wanted to be more than just a three-point shooter.

"I think last year probably 90% of my shots were from three," he said. "This year 40 or 50% of my shots have been from three so I've expanded my game and taking a lot more midrange shots or driving to the basket. Everyone knows I like to shoot the ball so I've had to be more creative."

Mason is strong academically, so it's no surprise he's getting attention from Ivy League schools.

"Portland is showing the most interest; I've gone on an official visit there," he said. "Columbia has been in contact a little bit and I'm talking to some other Ivy League schools."

When it comes time to make a college decision, Mason will prioritize a couple different aspects of a program.

"I'm looking for a good basketball tradition, where the school is passionate about it." Mason said. "I'd like a place with a good coach and basketball atmosphere."
