Passing Down Elite 7-on-7 Challenge NorCal Regional
Top Golden State prospects face off in Livermore

Team Pro Sport looks to defend their 2012 Passing Down Elite 7-on-7 Challenge Best of the West title beginning Sunday in Northern California. Led by four-star Vanderbilt verbal commit K.J. Carta-Samuels, Pro Sport is the team to beat heading into the tournament.

But the four-star Bellarmine Prep signal caller isn't alone in terms of talent for the San Jose-based squad. Live Oak RB/DB Trevor Bearden, Sobrato WR/DB Calvin Tipton, and Bellarmine Prep LB Joe Castignani are also solid D1 prospects on Pro Sport. One 2015 prospect to watch is 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end Jake Moen.

Three of NorCal's top quarterbacks in 2014 class are slated to showcase their talent with none hotter than four-star gunslinger Manny Wilkins out of San Marin. The nation's 15th best quarterback in the nation, according to Scout.com, has offers from Arizona and Utah State.

Wilkins played last year as a receiver for current Cal quarterback Jared Goff at Passing Down. He quarterbacked Team DB Guru in Las Vegas early this month, but DB Guru isn't making the trip leaving the talented signal caller to assemble a hodgepodge of athletes. Hence, Team "Those Guys" will be interesting to watch on Sunday. Regardless, they will have a solid arm leading the way.

Also holding an Arizona offer, among three others, Casa Grande quarterback JaJuan Lawson leads Team Shift. Lawson is an intriguing athlete as many programs like him as a defensive back at the next level. Speaking of athletes/defensive backs, Team Shift teammate Malik Beachum could steal the show this weekend. While still awaiting his first offer, there might not be a better two-way threat (offense/defense) in the tournament than the American Canyon junior.

A couple of young signal callers will look to put themselves on the map. Team EBAL Elite quarterback Kyle Kearns out of Foothill is arguably one of the top 2015 prospects in the Golden State. Whitney 2016 quarterback Hunter Rodrigues looks to follow in his older brother's – current Oregon Duck Jake Rodrigues – footsteps. The older Rodrigues led Team Sac Attack in the 2011 Passing Down Elite 7-on-7 Challenge. The younger's team is also named Sac Attack.

Rounding out the nine-team field is Team ASAP, Team Diverse Sports, Team Kenion Training, and Team Thunder.
