PREVIEW: MLK Classic Features Bevy of Stars

Ivan Rabb, Bishop O'Dowd.

Scout.com will be on hand as some of Northern California's best and brightest face off against one another in the 17th annual MLK Classic at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley.

On Monday, Concord (Calif.) De La Salle will host the 17th annual MLK Classic, once again at Haas Pavilion, on the California campus in Berkeley, and the field is full of Division I hoops prospects.

Nine of the 12 participating teams won at least 20 games last season, with three – including 2015 five-star Ivan Rabb's Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O'Dowd – having taken home section titles.

Rabb, 2015 forward Isaiah Thomas and the Dragons are set to battle powerful Sacramento (Calif.) Capital Christian, which features four-star defensive end prospect Nifae Lealao -- who will just have completed his official visit to Berkeley – and 2014 three-star Michigan commit D.J. Wilson, who is averaging 12.3 points and a team-high 5.8 boards per game for the 14-2 Cougars in the 3:45 p.m. game.

Powerful El Cerrito (Calif.) – coming off of a Holiday Hardwood Invitational tournament win in Westlake, Calif., last month – will tip off against San Francisco (Calif.) Sacred Heart Cathedral in the 12:15 game. The Gauchos (17-1) feature 2015 point guard Tyrell Alcorn, who is averaging 18.1 points, 3.1 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game.

The 5:45 p.m. game pits the host Spartans against Long Beach (Calif.) Poly (12-6), led by senior Kameron Murrell, who has averaged 16.1 points per game.

De La Salle (10-3) is led by 6-foot-7 forward Patrick Marr.

The finale pits two Northern California stalwarts against one another for a 7:30 p.m. tip, with Sacramento (Calif.) facing off against Richmond (Calif.) Salesian.

The Dragons lost to El Cerrito in the final of the Holiday Hardwood Invitational on Dec. 30, and are a very young – but talented – squad. Sacramento boasts a trio of Division I prospects in forward Solomon Young, wing Christian Terrell and point guard Tre Finch, while the Pride (9-8) are led by 2015 guard DaMar Dunn.
