VIDEO: Scouting Kealoha
BERKELEY -- One of the biggest standouts from this past weekend at California's non-contact camp was 2015 Concord (Calif.) Mt. Diablo wide receiver/defensive back River Kealoha.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pounder is largely an unknown, but coaches on hand were impressed with his size, physicality and athleticism. He certainly looks the part of a Division I wide receiver, and after the camp, he started gaining some interest, starting with the Bears. Wide receivers coach Rob Likens made his way up to Witter Rugby Field specifically because he was told about two leaping, twisting touchdown grabs Kealoha made, and when he arrived, he wasn't disappointed.
With just the Bears and Cal Poly having sniffed around before last weekend, and Likens bumping into Kealoha during spring campus visits, Kealoha has seen his stock jump thanks to his strong performance in Berkeley.
Since camp wrapped, Kealoha – who boasts a 3.4 GPA and a 4.6 40 time -- has gotten calls from the Mustangs and Humboldt State, and requests for his highlights from five schools: Cal, Army, Humboldt State, Cal Poly and San Jose State.
Kealoha shows a good affinity for finding open space on the field as a receiver, and is a tough defender. He profiles best as an offensive player at the next level, though all of his highlights from his junior year are on the defensive side of the ball.
Kealoha is a very good leaper, particularly in traffic, with a vertical of 30 inches. He profiles best as a red zone receiver who can go up and get a ball or body up a smaller safety over the middle, as he did several times during the seven-on-seven portion of camp exercises.
