We kick off our 2006-2007 Girls Basketball Coverage with our “Player Spotlight” feature on one of the top 2008
prospects in California. Caty Huntington, a 5-9 Guard from
Bakersfield and Liberty High School with tremendous speed and a bright basketball
future.
PrepCA: What were your stats from last
season?
Caty:
16 Points PG; 5.4 Rebounds PG; 3.8 Steals PG; 2.5 Assists PG; 3 pt
FG%=32%
PrepCA: What is your official height and
weight?
Caty:
5’9”; 145lbs.
PrepCA: What is your greatest basketball
memory?
Caty:
Winning the County Championship in 8th grade, the 1st in our
schools 20 yr history (and I was voted MVP).
PrepCA: What are your goals for the upcoming
season?
Caty:
Stay healthy, WIN, score 500 points, and have less
turnovers!
PrepCA: What aspect of your game have you really worked
hard to improve?
Caty:
Ball handling
PrepCA: Who are some of your teammates that people need to
watch out for?
Caty:
School – Kristi Kehoe & Kristin Alvidrez, Club – Abby Bloetscher & Jana
Smith
PrepCA: Name one teammate you really respect and
why?
Caty:
The teammate that doesn’t get much playing time, but still works hard every day
and has a good attitude that helps keep the team going.
PrepCA: What are your goals regarding playing basketball
in college?
Caty:
In 4 years I’d like to be a better basketball player, get my degree, and make
lifetime friends!
PrepCA: Would you consider staying in state to play in
college?
Caty:
Yes
PrepCA: What would your top 5 college choices be?
Caty:
I’m still not sure what colleges. With the help of my mom and dad, we’re
going to try and figure it out by April.
Washington, ASU, Florida and Colorado have been sending me A LOT of stuff, and I’d be
interested in them.
PrepCA: Who is the best player you ever played against?
Why?
Caty:
Italee Lucas because she’s very smart with the ball, athletic and just so
good!
PrepCA: Name one opponent who you really respect and
why?
Caty:
Britt Peters because she is awesome. She can make the impossible happen
and she supports her teammates on and off the court.
PrepCA: What Club Basketball team do you player for in the
Spring and Summer?
Caty:
CenCal Elite
PrepCA: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a
player?
Caty:
Strengths are my speed and agility, my ability to score and defense. Weaknesses
are turnovers and fouls – I need to stop 2nd guessing
myself.
PrepCA: Who is your favorite athlete and
why?
Caty:
Steve Nash because he’s the little guy that rules the
court!
PrepCA: What is the best piece of advice you have ever
received?
Caty:
If you work hard and have fun doing it, good things will
happen.
PrepCA: Tell us what can we expect from your team this
season?
Caty:
A LOT of heart and teamwork! We’re gonna leave it all on the
court!
PrepCA: What position do you think you will play in
college?
Caty:
Guard
PrepCA: What can a college program expect from you as a
player?
Caty:
A team player that works hard, has alot of love and respect for the game,
coaches and teammates.
PrepCA: What will the main factors be when you choose a
school?
Caty:
Commitment in making sure I get my college degree.
Become a better basketball
player.
Having relationships and life experiences that will
help me grow and be a better person.
