Week seven of the prep football season in California saw several Golden State gridiron greats have fine performances. Here are week eight's "Stars of Friday Night," GoldenStatePreps.com's weekly look at the California high school football standouts...

Cierre Wood had a career night in Santa Clara's victory over league contender and CIF Mid-Valley Division’s #3-ranked Bishop Diego, 42-41. First, he became Santa Clara's Career leading rusher on a 71-yard touchdown run, surpassing Paul Perez's mark of 2,593 yards. He would go on to score 40 of the Saints’ 42 points, rush for 377 yards and six touchdowns, including a game winning 60-yard touchdown with 45 seconds to go and Santa Clara down by six. With the extra point, Wood would help the Saints go on to win and are the front-runners for the league title. His 377 yards rushing are also a school record.

Sophomore fullback Svondo Bradley carried 14 times for 88 yards for Santa Clara.

Arteze Spicer rushed for his second 270 yard+ game in a game against Claremont. His first was against West Covina for 271 yards on 14 carries. Against Claremont, he rushed for 275 yards on 23 carries.

Sacramento Christian Brothers won its third game in a row, defeating Galt HS in a Sierra Valley Conference Game. Christian Brothers is tied for first place with Ponderosa HS, who Christian Brothers plays this Saturday at home. Two juniors led the way for the Falcons. On offense, Junior RB Marcus McDaniel, had 13 carries for 152 yards. He also had 2 KO Returns for 49 yards. On defense, one of the key players was DE/LB Daniel Cox. Daniel had 12 tackles, including 3 sacks totaling 26 yards.

Los Gatos remained unbeaten thanks to a big game by running back Nick Kalpin, who ran for 212 yds and three touchdowns and also had a 50-yard punt return for a score in less than three quarters in a 42-6 win. Linebacker Kiko Alonso was all over the place on defense and added a touchdown catch.

Los Banos fullback Casey Cotta had 20 carries for 238 yards and five touchdowns in a 47-33 win over Madera South.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Chadwick quarterback Andy Magee had another good night, going 28-for-45 for 350 yards and five touchdowns despite their first loss of the season. Magee is second in the state in passing.

Chris Brown rushed for 194 yards and touchdowns of 17, 16 and 7 yards on 28 carries to keep Newbury Park unbeaten at 8-0.

Simi Valley's Langston Jackson rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in a loss to Newbury Park.

Merced receiver Jarrett Sparks had five catches for 168 yards and 4 touchdowns to help Merced knock off Turlock, 49-7

Morro Bay defensive end Jerome Long had two receptions in a win, but was even more impactful on defense, recording 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Teammate Logan Budd was 7-for-13 for 144 yards and a touchdown pass, and rushed for 102 yards on nine carries and score touchdowns for Morro Bay. He added three tackles on defense and was 4-for-5 on PATs and had two touchbacks on kickoffs. For the season, Budd has 987 yards passing with 10 TD and no interceptions, 875 yards rushing with 13 TD. His Quarterback rating is 122, and he has averaged 15.5 points scored per game. Next week, Morro Bay will play St. Joseph (Santa Maria) for the Los Padres League Championship. It will be Logan's 23rd game as varsity quarterback.
