In its first year of existence, GoldenStatePreps.com has decided to do two separate teams for each part of the state, an all-Northern California team and an all-Southern California team (which only includes seniors). We'll also have a Super All-State Underclass team.
Here is a look at the All-Southern California Football Team for 2007:
Headling the All-SoCal team is our Player of the Year and like the NorCal Player
of the Year, this was an easy choice. Van Nuys Birmingham running back
Milton Knox is the pick after he helped lead the Patriots to their third City
Section title in four years and established career records in the section.
Knox's 2,210 yards and 39 touchdowns added to his career record of 6,995 yards
and 103 touchdowns, the best in section history.
But Knox will say his most memorable achievement was leading the Patriots to
back-to-back City Section titles and leaving their mark as one of the finest
teams in City Section lore. Knox is a soft commit to UCLA and is also
considering Florida.
Our Offensive Player of the Year is Ryan Bass from Corona Centennial. The
all-everything ball-carrier had his Huskies in the California State D-I title
game, and though they came up short, they were one of the elite teams in the
West all-season long. Bass rushed for 2,608 yards and 47 touchdowns and
helped the Huskies to the CIF-SS Inland Division title. Arizona State will
be the next stop for Bass.
The SoCal Defensive Player of the Year is Vaughn Telemaque. The 6-2,
190-pound safety from Long Beach Poly was at his best in the playoffs,
specifically in the CIF-SS Pac-5 title game, when he intercepted three passes,
including the game-clincher in the final minutes in the Jackrabbits 13-3 win
over Encino Crespi. He finished the season with 71 tackles and eight
picks, but more importantly, changed the facet of games with his presence in the
secondary.
