GoldenStatePreps.com presents a second photo gallery from the Hoops for the Homeless Tournament in Sacramento last week. Here is the first gallery that features prominent players from some of the top teams in the Sacramento area...

Xavier Thames, #1 Pleasant Grove High School, is one of the most highly recruited Guards in Northern California.

Ra’Shawn Brookes, #15 Pleasant Grove High school, nails the 3 pointer.

Yemi Akilo, #2 Elk Grove H.S. and their leading scorer , goes for the fast break against Sheldon H.S.

Ryan Pearson, # 32 of Elk Grove H.S., goes inside for the 2 pointer.

Darius Nelson, #21 Sheldon H.S., is a freshmen and the school’s leading scorer. A few of the fans in the stands referred to him as baby Shaq. He sure looks strong enough and he can shoot three pointers! Darius is the younger brother of Demarcus Nelson of Duke . He’s well on his way to making a name for himself. We’ve got three more years to enjoy watching him play varsity ball.

Aaron Howse, Sheldon HS #1, accepts the Chris Marshall All-Showcase Award.

This day has become one that people donate their time for a good cause, for example referee John Rogers. John referee’s high school and college basketball in the greater Sacramento area.

Hoops for the Hungry serves two purposes every year. It helps those that are truly hungry and misfortunate in the Sacramento community. It also provides high school basketball fans with a day long event feeding their hunger to watch some of the best players in the area.

The event is always held on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday holiday. Steve Caruso, of Family Promise, is the events founder. The mailing address for Family Promise of Sacramento is P.O. Box 1378, Sacramento, CA 95812. Their office phone number is (916) 443-3107. Please feel free to contact them directly if you’d like to make a donation.
